Test Cricket is not about those yawning times when you push yourself back to the armchair and doze off to sleep, but only to be woken up by a fall of wicket. Neither is it about demolishing victories or embarrassing losses. It is a test of mental strength, character, temperament, toiling hours of concentration and extreme craftsmanship of skill. That is why it is called as test cricket. South Africa did not lose nor did they win, but did more than just that: they battled for survival.

Raw talented cricketers are a rare breed amongst a growing garland of professional cricketers. They lie beneath the soil; eagerly trying to protrude out, but more often than not they go unnoticed or stamped upon. They don’t carry a bagful of wickets nor do they have the backing of hefty runs, but they are prodiges of highly specialized skills and technique.

Yet another selection takes place and yet again S.Badrinath , who is the most deserving of the lot to feature, misses out. This has now become a routine irrespective of change in selection panels. Badri has seen a generation of players like Yuvraj, Pujara, Kohli, Murali Vijay, Raina, Abinav Mukund, Rahane come and go past him and make the selection cut. People keep asking why the spot after Ganguly’s retirement is a huge void. Just look at those names above and only 2 of them-Pujara and Kohli look like settled for long time test career. The rest 5 of them are cats on wall business.
